Playin’ Catchup!

Yes, I do remember that I have a blog! lol

Wow, this week has been completely and TOTALLY nuts! I started getting a sore throat Monday along with some sinus drainage. Should have called in sick Tuesday, but didn’t… and got rear-ended on the way to work! UGH!! Wednesday I had all these red, swolled spots on my arms, legs, chest, back, etc… turned out I was having an allergic reaction to amoxicillian that I took like two weeks ago! Thursday it was worse, so I went to the doc for a cortisone shot. Friday was fairly quiet, and then Saturday I spent the day at my parent’s – cookout and pool fun with my brother’s family – and today I’m paying for it with very, VERY red arms, cheeks and more! But it was fun!

So this week Jack and I are preparing to go to Buffalo, New York. I have some training scheduled with one of our vendors up there, so we’re going a few days early to do some sightseeing around Niagara and Toronto. I’ve never been to Canada, so it should be interesting!

Other than that, I am hoping that this week is MUCH, MUCH quieter than last week! I take my car to the body shop on Monday, so let’s pray that goes smoothly! :o)

But right now I have three kits up for sale through Paypal links…. start simple, right? :o)

I really should be working on some graphic design stuff, but what am I really doing? Surfing. The web, that is. And remembering some fun surfing Friday night at the store! Ah yes, Ms. Donna was in the house… check out her blog for more photos from nights 1 and 2.

Another Peek at Digi 101

So here’s kit number 2 for my class… it’s a little more girly, but it doesn’t have to be. It would make a great spring/summer page too! The other kit (called “Fresh”) is more masculine, I think, so this one had to balance it out. :o)

My Digital Scrapbooking 101 classes are scheduled for Wednesday, September 5th from 6:30-8:30 pm, and will repeat on Sunday, September 16th from 2:00-4:00 pm. You’ll get two free digital kits, and will walk out of the class with two printed scrapbook pages! Oh, and it’s only $20! I’m really, really excited about teaching this class. If you want to sign up, call The Scrapbook Pad at (817) 656-4905 (note: I’m not teaching the class in August, I start my class in September) For my class you’ll need to bring a laptop (unless you just want to watch, but that’s no fun!), and the class size is very limited.

So very, very excited!!

Sneak Peek

So in anticipation of my digital 101 classes in September, I’m putting together a couple of digikits for my students. Here’s a sneak peek at the first one. :o)

I really like these colors, and I hope my students do too! Maybe later this week I’ll show a sneak peek at another one… we’ll see!

(P.S. Special thanks to Jamie for her inspiration! lol)

Voting

I’ve never voted on a TV show. Not American Idol, not anything. I’ve just been a passive observer (ok, maybe passive is a stretch).

Tonight was a first. I voted. For this man, Greg Chavez, on American Inventor.

If you haven’t seen it, the show takes ideas from ordinary people and give them the chance to win a million dollars and put their idea into the marketplace. Mr. Chavez’ invention is called Guardian Angel. It’s a Christmas Tree fire prevention system. He is a firefighter and has seen the destruction first hand that is caused by Christmas tree fires every year. The video he showed of how quickly a tree, and the entire room, go up in flames was disturbing! He, and his idea, touched me enough that at the end of the show I actually picked up my phone, for the first time ever, and dialed those numbers on the screen. Over and over and over again. I don’t know if it was his humble nature, his love for his family, or just the sheer potential of his invention to save lives, but something got to me, and made a difference. And I really do hope that I made a difference.

It’s probably too late to encourage you to vote too, but watch the show next Wednesday, and check this guy out, because his invention could one day save your family.

THE Book

I’m not even going to say the name of it, because everyone knows by now. :o)

I accompanied Jack to the midnight release “ball” at Borders Friday night. What a circus that was! After waiting for about an hour, we emerged victorious! Woo hoo!

Also, it’s official, I have two class dates on the September calendar to teach Digital Scrapbooking 101 Classes. Is it a bad thing to be nervous already? :o)

We found a tree trimmer… actually we got quotes from a few of them. It was about what I was expecting, but Jack was a little surprised at how high the quotes were. Oh well, it’s a necessary evil, right? Hopefully we can get that done in the next few weeks.

And last, but not least, if you’re in the North Texas area, check out The Scrapbook Pad… they have Donna Downey coming in to teach classes in a couple of weeks. She’s teaching some very cool classes! Go check it out!

<- I've added a new link over there. Check it out, and consider sending something... a letter, a card, a pack of gum or kool-aid... to our men and women serving in the war. It's easy to do. And seriously, we owe it to them. Seriously.

Sorry for saying Sorry

So, apparently it’s bad form to apologize for not blogging. Or even to acknowledge that one has not blogged. (This is all according to Jack) So from the bottom of my Emily-Post-Wannabe heart, I sincerely apologize for apologizing for not blogging… because I’ve done that a lot since the conception of this blog. So there, that’s my PSA, and all that stuff.

I’m putting together some class proposals for The Scrapbook Pad. They would be digital classes, and unfortunately I have more ideas than I can conceivably make reality, so the picking and choosing is not easy. Anyway, if everything goes well, I’ll start teaching a class or two in September. I’ll be sure to post details here when that happens.

Forgive me for a moment, but I have to… well I guess it’s bragging, but I really don’t mean it that way. We hired a yard guy. Yes, we have a yard guy and I can’t tell you how THRILLED I am about that! He comes every 3 weeks or so and mows the front and back yards, edges and blows away the grass off the sidewalk and driveway. This is such a blessing for me, because I was having to mow the yard since Jack can’t do it, and frankly, we have a HUGE back yard! It seemed like there was always a reason why I couldn’t get it done, and then I’d have to ask my dad to mow it with his riding mower since it got so high. Not anymore! Woo hoo!! SUCH a load off my back I tell ya. Now we just have to find a good tree trimmer… we got a notice from the city that our tree is too low over the street… ugh, great.

Have a great week… until next time!

The Little Addition

Posted on : 11-07-2007 | By : Heather | In : Uncategorized

So here’s the little addition to our electronic family… an iPod shuffle! :o) Yes, I know, I have a 60 gig video iPod already. But do you know how heavy (relatively!) that thing is when you’re trying to workout? It pulls my elastic waist athletic shorts down! lol

So one of our manufacturers at work is offering this incentive program, and I earned enough points for a shuffle! Yay!

In other, non-electronic news… it finally stopped raining. Sort of. Now we’re getting typical late Spring/early Summer weather… HOT, with chances of afternoon thunderboomers. Fun.

Um, what else… not a whole lot going on, really. Just the normal stuff… working (at my day job), working (at the scrapbook store some evenings), and working (freelance design work). :o) I need a life.

A Good Week

Posted on : 05-07-2007 | By : Heather | In : Uncategorized

It’s been a good week. It started out with that up there. See that? It’s a 17″ laptop! Cool huh? How am I taking a webcam picture of me and my laptop? With my other laptop… yeah, the other one… the macbook with the built in webcam. :o) Cool huh?

So I’ve been in the market for a new laptop, one with a larger screen, faster processor, etc. But I debated about what I should get – Mac or PC? (Hi, I’m a Mac, Hi, I’m a PC… hmmmm). So I searched online and decided I wanted a Dell if I got a PC, and a Macbook if I got a Mac. Well guess what, Craigslist to the rescue! Someone nearby actually had a 6 month old Macbook AND a 9 month old Dell (similar to the configuration I was looking for!) for sale – so he could get funds to buy an iPhone! lol So I bought both for a FABULOUS deal, if I do say so myself.

So that’s me… and my PC laptop… and my Mac laptop… one big happy family! :o)

I’ll tell you later about our other little addition (NO, we’re NOT pregnant)

The Feeling of Productivity

Posted on : 24-06-2007 | By : Heather | In : Uncategorized

It feels so good to look at your “To Do” list and see so many checkmarks! In addition to the regular weekend activites (i.e. laundry, dishes, cleaning, etc.), Jack and I finished patching some spots, painted the final wall and corner in the living room, some unpainted spots in the dining room (all left after an overzealous project didn’t get finished!), I re-caulked the master bathroom tub/shower, Jack replaced the drain in the master tub. I think that’s it. Wow, it feels like it was a lot more than that short little list! lol

Remember my request last week, about the biopsy on my leg? Well I finally got a call, it’s not cancer (YAY!), but it’s idiopathic (which means “we don’t know!”). They suspect that it’s caused by some medicine that I take, so the next step is process of elimination to figure out which one. I go in this week to get my stitches taken out.

I’m planning on having a garage sale next weekend… if I can get everything ready this week! We’ve been putting things out in the garage as we’ve come across things for the sale, and it’s getting too crowded out there, so now’s the time!

Until next time…

I just have to share this… Jamie Harrington’s blog.

Specifically this post – Why Dobby is the Smartest Parent. (I was totally peeing in my pants, laughing so hard as I imagined any of my nieces doing this exact same thing, and the “nose, nose, NOSE” part! Too funny!)

And this one, well… this one is just PRICELESS!!

Beautiful

I cleaned out my cardstock… yes, can you believe it? And it’s not because I’m going completely digital, let’s just quash that little rumor right there. I am still VERY much a paper scrapbooker… but I’m also a digital scrapbooker. I’m not a hybrid scrapbooker because I definitely don’t mix the two together… they are very separate and distinct entities. Hmmm… does that make me bi-scraptual? lol Yes, I scrap both ways. (Sorry, I just couldn’t resist!)

ANYWAY, back to the cardstock. So I’m looking at this stack of cardstock and I’m just thinking “Wow, THAT is pretty.” So I took a picture. And I’m sharing it here with you. And it’s finding a good home soon, hopefully, because I want to spread the beauty (and make room for new goodies! ha ha!)

Where’s Heather?

That’s a good question! I feel like I’ve been so busy, yet I can’t remember why.

We’re working on fixing some things in the house. Trying to get it ready in case someone wants to buy it. If you know someone looking for a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house with a HUGE backyard and HUGE trees in the front yard, for under $100K, send them my way, ok? :o)

I’ll try and post something cool later this week. I offer my sincerest apologies for disappearing. Although I kind of wonder if anyone notices, so here’s a challenge… if you are reading this blog (yes, I mean you… the person looking at this screen), then post a comment by clicking on the word “Comments” under this post. Tell me your favorite color and your favorite ice cream flavor.

Until then…

So I’ve had this itch to knit baby stuff, but Jack says it’s bad luck. So I’m knitting baby stuff… just not for me! :o) Here’s my first completed project… a baby cap. There’s room for improvement, but I’m pretty happy with it! It, and all the others I’m planning on knitting, will be donated to Baylor’s maternity ward. It’s just a small way that I can give back to a place, and the people, that did so much for Jack after his accident.
~Heather
Edited: Not sure why the photos aren’t showing. I’ll keep working on it. Sorry! It’s pink if that helps! :o)
